Five Applications for your Laptop

image Recently my company gave me Dell D630 laptop. So I started looking for some applications which are laptop specific. I love digging into the things so I did a bit of R&D on this issue and finally I settled down for the following few.

Laptop Alarm 2.0beta

Laptop Alarm will ring a loud alarm if someone will try to steal your laptop! When the laptop is disconnected from AC-power (someone pulls the AC adapter plug out) or someone removes the USB mouse the alarm will go off! This feature of this application is simple yet powerful and will be really handy at your work or play. The size of the application is also just 350 KB. The beta version includes the ability to send SMS to you whenever alarm goes off.

LaptopLocate.net 2.9.2

LaptopLocate.net is helpful in finding where computers, especially mobile computers are currently located. If a computer is stolen, Tometa Software coordinate's with law enforcement to track a registered user's computer before data is compromised. The New IP address and the location of your Laptop will be logged everytime someone turns on your Laptop. They claim to this to be functional even if your laptop doesn't have the ability to send emails.

WirelessMon 2.1.1001

WirelessMon is a software tool that allows users to monitor the status of wireless WiFi adapter(s) and gather information about nearby wireless access points and hot spots in real time. WirelessMon can log the information it collects into a file, while also providing comprehensive graphing of signal level and real time IP and 802.11 WiFi statistics. The professional version allows to see the loopholes and manually patching them.

Backer 6.7

It allows to Sync your Laptop with anything. Let it be a USB, external hard disk, your phone or your work machine. Though it is not a free software but it is worth the try.

Laptop Battery Tester

Most of the new laptops comes with inbuilt battery monitoring tools, but this one is kinda cool as it examines your laptop battery voltage and export data results to Microsoft Excel or Picture export. Which might be quite useful for future reference.

  1. Good list - thanks. There's also Lojack for Laptops for laptop theft recovery, which has a support team and support for which is built into your Dell's BIOS, I think.
