Google Digg from firefox

All of us love Digg for its content, Google for its search capabilities and firefox for extensibility. As we all are aware that digg's search feature sucks, so we use Google to search Digg by preceding search term with "site:www.digg.com"  in Google search bar.

Here's a way that'll make firefox do it for you. It won't take much of your time but will somewhat help your searching activities on Digg.

Open the Firefox search plugins directory [generally C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins]. Create a new text file using Notepad and paste the following code:

<search
name="Google Digg"
method="GET"
action="http://www.google.com/search"
queryCharset="utf-8"
>

<input name="q" user>
<input name="sitesearch" value="www.digg.com">
</search>

Now save the file with a an .src extension e.g GoogleDigg.src .
Restart firefox and you are done. Now choose "Google Digg" from your search bar and Google Digg from your firefox

Digg is getting buried in search

Search Fetaure on Digg is really pathetic. You really have to screw yourself real hard in irder to get something you want.

A known crap is here....

Submit a New Story - Are You Sure It's Not a Duplicate?

image

this feature really is of no use. It will give the list of possible duplicates which are nowhere related to the content that you are trying to submit. I am sure that they are not even checking the links of the story.

I am not sure what this page is for?

image

Please wait while we digg through your submission

I feel that it doesn't d anything except keeping user wait for sometime. Still if you think that I'm wrong then let me give you an example.

Check these two links:

http://digg.com/tech_news/The_Hidden_Influencers_of_Digg_3

http://digg.com/tech_news/The_Hidden_Influencers_of_Digg_2

Both the stories have same heading, same description and mind you..... same link too. How is it possible? Why digg is allowing me to submit the same link twice? Is it a limitation?

Digg is really doing a great job by introducing new features(pictures, Video...and may be torrents too ;), but they should concentrate more on the basic things like searching, I hope all of you will agree to to my view that digg search sucks and most of the times you would be using google to search digg, so why don't digg integrates google serch in the site to improve the user experience.

This is just a suggestion to the digg guys to improve the functionality of the site. No offence :)

The Hidden Influencers of Digg

A new generation of hidden influencers is taking root online, fueled by a love affair with a growing number of Digg-like websites that let users vote on their favorite submissions. These sites are the next wave in the social networking craze - popularized by MySpace and Facebook, writes The Wall Street Journal.
Digg is one of the most prominent of these sites, which are variously labeled social bookmarking or social news. Others include Reddit.com (recently purchased by Conde Nast), Del.icio.us (bought by Yahoo), Newsvine.com and StumbleUpon.com. Netscape relaunched last June with a similar format.
To find the key influencers, the Wall Street Journal analyzed more than 25,000 submissions across six major sites. At Digg, which has 900,000 registered users, 30 people were responsible for submitting one-third of postings on the home page.
The hidden influencers of these sites are often ordinary people who vote on hundreds of pieces of web content daily. For example, 18-year-old Smaran Dayal, a high-school student who submits some 40 stories a week on Digg, has become a go-to source there for news about Apple.
These influencers are now getting offers by marketers to vote on products and services. Though, companies like Digg are fighting back against Payola schemes, tracking and kicking off influential users who are caught 'digging' for cash.
